Michael Hunter

Dr. Michael Hunter was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, where he and his family currently reside. Dr. Hunter earned his PhD in Psychology from the Cognition, Brain and Behavior program at The University of New Mexico (2016). At UNM, he utilized neuroimaging technologies to assess the effects of mindfulness training with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). He utilized similar techniques to assess the effects of working memory training with tDCS in people with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury at the Center for Brain Recovery and Repair. As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Hunter conducted research at a biotechnology company in San Diego, CA, where he analyzed mental states associated with workload and fatigue using wearable neuro-technology. After his professional training, Dr. Hunter conducts behavioral health and cognitive neuroscience research supporting the US Navy and the Department of Defense. He possesses specialized expertise in evaluating the validity of biomarkers of mental illness, personnel security/insider threat, accelerated learning, and self-regulation. Michael loves to spend his free time with his family and friends, exploring new places, camping, surfing, and reading.

Education: BA in Philosophy, BS in Psychology, MS in Psychology, and PhD in Psychology from The University of New Mexico.
